Etymologically if we try tracing down the meaning of Rajgir, it evidently means either ‘house of the king’ or the “royal mountain”. Rajgir was the ancient capital city of the Magadha kings until the 5th century BC. Located 15 kms from Nalanda and 100 km from Patna in Bihar, Rajgir has been closely related to Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism and has played host to Lord Buddha and Mahavira, thus has many archaeological sites related to Buddhism and Jainism.
